Organizational Background
The Mbare hostels were built by the Rhodesian government as single quarters for male migrant laborers who worked in town and nearby industries. The 58 blocks of flats built in the 1940s now house approximately 8000 families and this has created a slum with a plethora of social and economic problems but it is home to many talented and enterprising youth, a foundation to the revolutionary struggle and successful business people, musicians and politicians in Zimbabwe.

Africa Awakening Trust is a network of ambitious and dedicated good cause and effect essay topics young professionals from Matapi Hostels in Mbare who are working to create platforms and opportunities for young people to use art as an advocacy tool and a means to earn an income.
